recording and monitoring thru optical

What's the best way to record and monitor (at the same time) through the adat outputs? I was recording to the optical inputs on my 002R and my master fader (with optical outs) wasn't controlling the signal to my speakers, (well to my converters then speakers). It was really LOUD.... When recording and monitoring through the analog outputs, the master fader will control the output level (so will the monitor knob). But not with optical outputs? Is it just me? How can I make it not as loud? Please help...

Create a Master Fader for Outputs 17&18 which are the S/PDIF outputs on an 002 usually. I'd suggest you get an external volume control system though.

Will the Spdif master fader control the Adat 1/2 outputs? Good thought about the external volume control. What do you think about the Big Knob? What are others?
