Default I'm Paying for Pro Tools 12 HD Twice?

Let me get this straight I have to pay 400 dollars for PT 12 HD again So I don't Loose my ability to upgrade.

Why can't I wait till PT13 comes out???? How is this acceptable? I paid 600 for 12 and now I am paying 400 just to maintain version12?????

Everyone on here is happy with this?

No, in fact very few are happy with this. It seems to be the way the software world is going, with temporary licenses and annual renewals. In Avid's case, at least if you opt not to renew, you can still use the software. It's a crummy situation that has me looking seriously at Nuendo for what I do. But I'm also in the middle of a micro-budget feature film of my own that I'm already mixing in Pro Tools HD, so I may end up biting the bullet for one more year of "support" at least. We'll see; I have another month to decide.

Hello ed1mac,

You can purchase a Renewal during your plan's term, or a Reinstatement if your plan has lapsed. Please see http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/f...FAQ#HDPlanInfo for this info.

Best regards,
JC

it seems some people just have their Renewal Date at a bad time .. they got in early with 12 but there has not been that much movement in updates yet ..

remember the reinstatement fee is 999.00 if you let your plan lapse .. !!! that should be in the link JC posted .. so at that point 399.00 is not that bad ..

And for your $399 you get the latest "point" updates, which most people find annoyingly bad, and are reverting to an earlier version without all the bugs. Hmmm.....

"You can purchase a Renewal during your plan's term, or a Reinstatement"
What an ignorant support answer.
Duh....Thats just the point. You (Avid) don't get it.
Not only do (did) HD users Pay substantially for the systems you now penalize use for doing a wait and see aproach or allow the computer and software to age together.

Another not happy supporting multiple HD systems.
However I am happy that finally a relatively stable 12.5.2 has landed So I can Hold and better look around.
I'll use my allotted 400.00 to upgrade DP9, Reason9 and my Dinner-Out plans.

It's like they got their 1000 upgrade after all (Discounted to 600 to keep in 12 oops now 400 to keep anticipating)..
Well it's not all Avid's fault.....I've been paying up.

This is the problem. "Reinstatement" is more than double the maintenance price. After we purchased Avid hardware for multiple thousands of our particular currency. Strong arm tactics. Were reinstatement more reasonable Avid might have a better reputation among it's user base.

That works out to be the same if I waited a year. I should wait two years and pay 999
if I upgrade now and each year after for the next two years that is 1200 dollars

I don't think PT 12 will be that out dated it 2 years from now.....Thanks for the advice!!!!

Did anyone ever upgrade every year, back when it was $600 for a major release?? Sounds like people spend more time upgrading systems than making music.

Find a version that works... go create something. Don't like it?? Move on.

In all seriousness, I can't say that I'm ecstatic about the new model, however, it seems to be going this way in most professional softwares... which is understandable. I'm sure Avid will find the sweet spot.
