Default could addtlmix farm card cause boot drive failure?

Ridiculous proposition, I know, but that's what happened. I just installed a second mix farm card in my expansion chassis, and immediately I noticed slower performance, longer boot times, within 27 hours, my mac G4 boot drive started clicking and failed. The drive was 3 months old. (Western Digital) I have just replaced it.

I suppose it's just coincidence.
