Default running 7.3.1 in windows compatibility mode with vista operating system

Hi,
I want to use the pro tools software 7.3.1. I know it is to be used with windows xp. I was wondering..... even though my operating system on laptop is vista, could I run the program in compatitibility mode and use windows xp? Thanks for your help.

i do have an external drive. it has not been formatted yet. do you think i should put windows xp on it, then enabling me to run the protools 7.3.1. Thanks in advance.

No. That won't work.

No, that won't work either.

If you're going to "dual boot" Windows operating systems, you need to do it from a partition on the system drive.

While I still personally recommend XP, both 7.4 and 8.0 are compatible with Vista (as long as it is 32-bit). Instead of spending the money (and time) on XP, why not just upgrade your version of Pro Tools?
