Default Old iMac to New iMac Migration

Hi Folks,

I hope you are all doing will...

Just purchased a new iMac i9 to replace my 2011 i7 iMac

so,

What is the best way to transfer/migrate my DAW files.

mostly looking to transfer, PT 2020, all my Plugins and VI, Kemper stuff, emails and Passwords.

I would love to do a clean install, but worried about remembering and finding serials, website login, Pw, etc etc ..

any help would be great.
Thanks

You really SHOULD do a clean install - you'll thank me for recommending it. If you don't then you're opening yourself up for all kinds of issues. You may well have s/w that won't run on Catalina if at all. You do NOT want to use Migration Assassin.

You could use Carbon Copy Cloner. I tried that when I moved from using my i7 27 inch 2011 iMac to my current 2012 Mac Pro cheesegrater. It worked but I had any number of weird issues. Ended up doing a clean install. Luckily I keep documentation on all my passwords, logins, etc. I also have a separate hard drive that has all my installers for all my s/w. Best money I ever spent (next to getting ZDT on both of my iLoks).

+1 for clean install. And I mean very clean install, as in wiping the factory installed system storage to ashes and building from zero to hero.

You have two imacs side by side so what is the problem in forgetting anything?
