hardware upgrade question

I have a 650mhz pentium3 and was thinking about upgrading my system to 1.2ghz cpu and motherboard to support it.
can anyone tell me if this will drastically increase the number of plug-ins that I can use simultaneously?
I'm talking about bomb factory and the recent waves demos which I both really love but are cpu hogs.
or should I wait for better hardware?
