Default Hardware upgrade question

Can the PT24 core system use the 882 I/O (16 bit) interface? The compatibilty docs say it can, but the product description for PT24 doesn't.

I don't use that configuration, but just one suggestion - remember to slap dither's across any 16 bit outputs you use.

Dither is a method for smoothing out low level signals in lower bit converters. Without going into how this is done, Angelo is right. It will make your audio slightly less grainy and will help retain the quality of your audio (if you recorded it at a higher bit rate). Dither is noticable mostly on low level material like fade outs of the tails of reverbs or sustaining instruments.
I find that my 882/20 is alot quieter than my old 882. Dither can help but only so much.
Most digital mixers include Dither. In protools its a plug in.
DO NOT USE DITHER ON THE SAME SIGNAL TWICE. It can create its own artifacts.
Hope this helps.
