Default Cannot record on Interfaces 5 - 7 Scarlett 18i8

Setup: Pro Tools Intro; Scarlett 18i8

Pro Tools Intro should be able to record up to 8 tracks simultaneously.

I can record on interfaces 1 - 4, but not on interfaces 5 - 8.

I've limited this example to Tracks 1, 2 and 5.

I can hear Track 5 in the output monitor, but I cannot record it. (No levels show up for this track in the Edit Window.)

Pictures of this simple setup are attached.

Granted, the Focusrite Control only shows 4 Inputs; but I think that is because they are the only ones that have configuration options (whereas other inputs do not). (When I click "Settings" in Focusrite Control, there is no way to add Tracks 5 - 8.)

Thanks for any help.

This has nothing to do with track limits, Pro Tools Intro is limited to four physical inputs... the first four that appear on the interface. This is called out in the product specs.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The only specs I could find were not as detailed as your response - i.e., "only the first four interfaces; not 'any' four interfaces simultaneously."

Thanks again.

A good place to look for a comparison of all the tiers is at this location.

Hope that helps. Thanks Darryl for the help on this one.

Yes good point, the only first <n> for n=4, 16, 64, 256 happens to different versions of Pro Tools which all have limits in terms of the CoreAudio/ASIO interface IO they support. That *first* bit is not really clear in Avid doc, (we have covered it a lot on DUC) and there is nothing you can do about it unless the hardware allows you to enable/disable/reconfigure the I/O which is very rare.

This first <n> catches out folks using different versions of Pro Tools, it's not just Intro, I've long asked for Pro Tools to give the user a clue which IO ports are or are not usable. Like you would think that would be obvious and be user friendly. And now we have pretty color coding in the IO but still no usable/unusable IO status.
