Pro Tools 11..3 cannot import audio from any Non Mac formatted driv
So i just installed my PT11 HDX system and my first issue came up. It seems when i import or preview audio from any mac formatted external drive i am good to go, however when i try to import or preview through any external drive or flash that is non mac formatted such as "fat" format my session completely locks up. I have never had any issues importing audio since 5.1. Any ideas?

Can you drag and drop the files to your computer?, if so, is the session being created in another drive that the NTFS drive?

yes i have no issues dragging files from their drives onto my own. My drive is Mac journaled. Just when i try and preview or import from the import audio dialog box on a non mac formatted drive such as Fat. The sessions i do are all created on my own Thunderbolt Mac Journaled drive. The work around i have been doing is preview the files with quicktime and then just drag them directly into the session region bin. I have never had any issues with this. i have tried it with about 20 drives now and the only ones that work are mac formatted drives.

Strange. You should be able to use eXFAT formatted drives since they are xplattform.

feliponk, i have found numerous other threads about this on other forums as well as one of this forum so it is not an isolated incident. Apprantly the issue started happening when 11.1 was released. 11.0 seemed to be fine.

Re: Pro Tools 11..3 cannot import audio from any Non Mac formatted driv
Confirmed the issue in 11.1.2, and verified that 11.0 works properly. Will test other versions as well to try and isolate, and report back soon.
Thanks, JC |

Re: Pro Tools 11..3 cannot import audio from any Non Mac formatted driv
Don't know if this was fixed with 11.2, but one of the work arounds I've found (and it's weird) is to reformat the flash drive using the MacOS Disk Utility "erase" function and formatting the drive as FAT - so reformatting in the same format! Of course this won't work with drives that contain data that can't be moved/copied, but may prove useful in the short term.
