Default 2gb file size limit?

hi,

does pro tools 8 still have a 2gb file size limit issue?

if so, what happens when pro tools is writing files which reach the 2gb limit? does it force drop out of record? does it start recording again for you? does it silently fail, so you don't know anything happened until you stop record and look back at the data?

at 48k 24bit, what's the max record time? my maths works out to be thinking it's just under 4 hours. is this about right?

james.

and having said that, why do the wave files on disk say they're 3.4gb in size when i've only been in record for about an hour?

No, it´s 4GB now but those sesions won´t open in PT 7.x and older. You will have to manually split EVERY file larger than 2GB to maintain backward compatibility.

Yes. At about 4 hours you reach 2GB. This will do the math for you: http://www.znarfelectronix.de/downlo...culatorOSX.sit

Yes in the PT8 manual I guess. Or in some "what´s new in PT8" manual.

Technically a WAV file is maxxed at 4GB true.

We cap it at 3.4GB as a conservative limit to preserve room for metadata.

In the future, support of the 64-bit WAV file format would allow for uber, grosser, larger sizes.

I have posted before that maximum size per file is 4GB and an avid rep has said that it's actually 3.4GB. This is why you can not export a 90-minute-long 5.1 mix as interleaved bwav.
