I really wonder if they make an thunderbolt card which will fit the first mtrx... I could use that and ditch the rme aes/ebu card which I use now for mac system sounds.

I was hoping for this too. Would be amazing actually. However, with a new MTRX II providing digilink ánd Thunderbolt connectivity, I guess it’s unlikely there ever will be a retrofit option for the (soon to be ‘old’) MTRX

I wonder if it will be a replacement or just another unit called mtrx 2, because the first one has aes/ebu options and the new one adat... well thats just not an update, thats called an downgrade. Who uses adat pipeline these days...? I find that the only odd choice...
Thunderbolt 3 or 4 card would be awesome.

It's a replacement. I could find some google cache page links yesterday, aren't working anymore now otherwise I'd have screenshotted it. In the cached pages, the dropdown menu at avid.com All Products > Hardware > , showed MTRX II where currently MTRX is listed.

Agree on the fact they removed the AES chassis connectors. That's a big downgrade.
Perhaps -perhaps- the price will adjust. Because €7999 for a chassis with digilink instead of adat and without Thunderbolt installed by default (as opposed to the AX64 with 16 channels of adat and 256 channels Thundercore around €4999), is not attractive for current MTRX owners and even more unattractive for new customers. Pro Tools Ultimate does 256 channels of I/O natively nowadays. So the digilink port is no longer the ticket to go beyond the 32 channel I/O limitation of Pro Tools native. Digilink is only for pro tools users who heavily rely on HDX.

Another approach for existing MTRX owners would be to add a DAD CORE256 to get much of the same functionality as what the MTRX 2 seems to offer.

MTRX 2 does not offer CORE256 out of the box (if the Thomann info pages are correct.) DAD does not make a CORE256 card for the AX32 (and therefore their isn't a design for the MTRX.)

I fully believe there is a hardware issue to attempt to do this (namely the MTRX/AX32 motherboard doesn't support bifurcation.)
I would imagine DAD would like to sell CORE256 to AX32 users (as an established customer base) if it was possible (the AX64 still has additional features as a chassis including a larger connection matrix) but I'm guessing there are hardware limitations.

That isn't what I mean.
I don't mean adding a card to the MTRX.
I am talking about simply adding a Core 256 product (the half rack) and serving up the IO over MADI, Dante or whatever.

I have the AX64 and the MTRX.
The AX64 is the master and what runs Pro Mon (because it has SPQ)- the Digilink IO is served up to the AX64 over coaxial MADI (but it could just as easily be over Dante)

Loading up the AX64 and MTRX with as much ADA as I can fit in it will allow me to offload some of the Dante expansion that I have.

What I mean here is DADMAN is *really well thought out* for multiple units.
This is what I see in my DADMAN

So instead of selling an MTRX chassis (how much will one of those be worth soon?) and getting the MTRX 2, simply adding a DAD Core256 or AX64 adds pretty much everything the MTRX2 seems to promise.

In my case, with the AX64, I have a lot more possible analogue IO channels 48 in the MTRX + 64 in the AX64.

Oh, I see. You meant adding another device.
There's a lot of options in that case (from DAD alone):
US$3K = Core 256
US$4k = AX Center
US$5k = AX64

Yes, this is why I suggested the Core 256.

There are a lot of options outside DAD of course, any native interface really.

But it is the tight integration that DADMAN has with supported devices that means, in practical terms, they operate as a cohesive unit, something that didn't happen when I was using an external native audio interface.

The Core256 seems to add most of what is the missing between the MTRX 1 and 2, and is available now.

I was just wondering if current MTRX owners will be in a rush to upgrade to MTRX2, given these options.

Though I can't find manuals for the AX64 or AX Center...
(why is DAD's website so poorly put together -- just look at any good audio interface maker and do the same: manuals, docs, specs, and version numbers on every product's page -- not this terrible hunt and don't find situation. Keep that info together on the product!).. continuing on... the lowest latency patch was MADI (6 samples) on the AX32/MTRX so it would seem sensible to be the link to between the secondary and main interface.
Unless those numbers changed (which no one can tell due to that poor website),
