Default How to transfer files across the net?

What is the cheapest way to transfer files from one user to another. The guitarist is in New Orleans and needs to send me 13 wave files to mix. We are using net meeting at the moment and it is painfully slow (both using cable). Should we try pc anywhere? Kazaa didn't work...

Roy posted this awhile back, is this still my only option? The guitarist to save the waves as mp3, then I convert mp3 back to wave? Is using MM the best tool for this?

I'd avoid using MP3 that way - it will have a neagative impact on the sound.

I'd put all the files in one directory, then create a multi-part zip archive of it. That wouls be lossless, but would likely be a larger transfer than MP3.

Between two computers, you might want to try Windows file sharing (though I normally leave that turned off.)

Depending on where you're located, using CD's and FedEx might be a good solution.

CDs and Fedex is/was the way we were going to do it and still might end up that way since we have 6 more songs to go. We are using pcanywhere at the moment and it is slow as well. Window sharing might work nicely, will try that as well, but as you say, lock it up when fini. We both use cable and he is in new orleans and I in Houston.

Unfortunately, if your in the louisiana area and on cable modems, you're probably with cox. Chances are that you'll have a hell of a time getting a ftp server (or any server) to work over a cable modem with cox as your isp. You can try installing ICQ (an instant messenger), and negotiating a file transfer with its builtin utility. It might just work.

Yes, he is with cox as was I when I lived in NOLA. I am now on time warner.

I considered FTP, but he had to head back to the studio tonight so that will have to wait. In the meantime, he went ahead and save as mp3 and shot them over with netmeeting. we tried pc anywhere, but netmeeting was faster. Thanks for the help.

Now my problem is that I am getting these 9073 errors. Haven't had them before and now they decide to pop up and I haven't changed anything in months!! Off to read the DUC...
