Default Applying a 44.1khz session to 88.2khz Audio Files

I have some material that is recorded at 88.2khz that I would like to edit at home. My set up there will only go as high as 48khz and while I am happy to create a 44.1khz session and SRC the files to 44.1, I am hoping that I can apply the edits to the 88.2khz files without having to convert back up.
I have tried using region groups ,exporting region definitions and importing session data but all of these SRC the 44.1khz files back up.
Is there a way to use the 44.1khz session with 88.2khz files?
Thanks

There is now way to do this, beside SRC your files to the session sample rate of your other system.

Pro Tools 10 has added support for files of multiple bit depth in the same session and you can also mix and match audio file types (.wav, .aif and .sd2, but not .mp3)
But also in Protools 10 you will be given a warning if the sample rate does not match. So same (logical) problem.

Grz,

Louis

  1. Save session copy as 44.1 and be sure to copy all media.
  2. Take 44.1 copy home and get your edit on.
  3. Back at the batcave, open the edited 44.1 session and save session copy as 88.2, again copying all media.
  4. Move 88.2 edited session file (.pts, .ptf, .ptx) into the original 88.2 session folder.
  5. Delete or move the edited 88.2 session folder to break the saved paths in the PT session.
  6. Open 88.2 edited PT session. When the missing files warning comes up, choose to re-link manually and also choose to regenerate missing fades, renders, et al.
  7. In the re-link window, narrow the search to the original media files folder and find links by name only, not unique ID.
  8. When the linked files apppear in the list, commit them and then save the session before getting on with the project.
