Default New Macs vs Mac mini vs MacBook Pro

Ok. For post production where I use a San (no internal drives for data storage) is anyone else thinking of which Mac might pair best now that we have to use a thunderbolt chassis? Does this bring the mini and MacBook Pro Into the equation?

This new MBP seems to work very well with PT11 and ThunderBolt HDN. With 16GB memory and i7 cpu I have not yet experienced any hiccups. And I love this retina display

That's what I'm wondering. Pair that with a big 27" display and Icon and you're in business.

Yep.

Generally speaking that i7 architecture of Intel's seem to be the major requirement for PT11. As for memory, well... that depends. I'm not a heavy VI user so I could live with less memory, but then again I love Disk Cache and I usually run about 30GB sessions so I would love to be able to double the RAM in this little laptop :) :) :)

Jfreak a few comments then a question - agree, the MBPr is absolutely awesome! I would also add that this setup plus a nice 50" HDTV is also wonderful...not always necessary to have all Apple stuff!
As to the question, I also have backup MBP (not retina) with 16 GB RAM. Can I use that one as a "slave" per se to access the RAM if need be? I don't use tons of VI's either but it's nice to know options.

If you have two PT11 licenses, then sure, why not. Have two systems running and sync them together. That is how they do the million dollar films in Hollywood studios. There has never been a PT system that can handle a thousand tracks at once, not to mention the processing needed.

You mean SAN as in fiberchannel? Or do you really mean NAS as in Ethernet or are you running iSCSI or what? What exact storage connector comes into the Mac and what protocol (e.g. iSCSI) are you running over that?

OK, more really a NAS then, and no harder fiberchannel connectivity issues to think through. And as long as you are not doing things like using two separate Ethernet connections all the Macs should be OK with this.
