Default Folks thoughts on the Command 8?

Hey all, i'm considering the purchase of a command 8, as i have around 30 fairly complex songs to mix for an album, & feel it should speed up the automation work-flow a bit...what have others experiences been with them?

xx

Absolutely.

I actually owned a Control 24 and didn't use half of it's features. The C8 absolutely feels just as responsive. Great product.

It's a solid, reliable performer. Notice that the stock fader caps are unusual if you're accusomed to working on large format desks, so I replaced them with Mackie HUI fader caps. Big improvement for me.

Everything about it is cool except the monitoring section. Note that there are serious quality control issues here. Maybe I am just having bad luck but I am on my 4th unit in 2 years. Every six months I start to have problems and every time the units have been replaced by Digidesign at their cost as they should have been. 2 of the 4 had mismatched gain for the left and right channels -- left side was up 5dB's. The other two had crackly pots after six months. The rest of the unit is tight however. I would suggest perhaps using a seperate stand-alone monitoring section like a Mackie Big Knob.

So no one seems to think that the Command 8's use of USB as a connection is a problem at all? It looks like it doesn't even use USB 2, although the only downloadable user guide available is in Japanese, so it might.

Any comments on that aspect?

I believe it is USB2. Great little unit, I just wish I had 16 faders rather than 8...
