Default 192 i/o - Combinations of Cards that will work.

Hey People. . . will the Digidesign 192 i/o interface function without the Digital Card installed in it (just with the 192 AD, and the 192 DA cards installed)?

if it's your only interface it will work
if it part of a multi-interface system it won't work

Hmmm. . .what are the permissible configurations for a 192 i/o to operate in a multi-interface system? I have looked around and can not find and documentation. I have a number of interfaces and would like to do some major suffling. Here are common configurations which still have a min of 16 inputs and 16 outputs available/addressable if the ADAT port is used on the base chassis:

A) Stock - 1 AD, 1 DA, 1 Digital, 1 open
B) 16 In - 2 AD, 1 DA, 1 Digital, 0 Open
C) 16 in/out - 2 AD, 2 DA, 0 Open
D) Same as Digital i/o - 2 Digital, 2 open
E) Digital Min - 1 Digital, 3 open
F) Analog Min - 1 AD, 1 DA, 2 Open
G) No DA - 1 AD, 1 Digital, 2 open
h) 16 In No DA - 2 AD, 1 Digital, 1 open

I would have thought since all these can be configured for 16 in/out all these would work in a single or multi-interface scenario. By the post above it seems (F) will not. Can anyone shed more light on this topic or the rules that determine what is permissible and what will not work normally?

You can run a 192 with 16 analog in AND 16 analog out??

While that would make sense....I always thought you couldnt ...

New ones (purple Avid interfaces) can handle any card combinations, but the old ones (blue Digidesign interfaces) cannot. Old interfaces only accept digital card to slot three. Digital card can be removed, but it cannot be replaced with analog card.

This changed with the new interfaces.

Oe question, if i have 3 interfaces (192io)
(1) - 1 AD + 1 DA + 1 Digital , Open (core card)
(2) - 1 AD + 1 DA , open , open (accel card 1)
--> (3) 1 DA only (accel card 2)
PTHD3 Accel

The third interface will work? or min 2 cards (1 AD and 1 DA) to work ?

I the rule is that you must have two working cards in slots 1-2-3 this is for sure. But I'm also guessing number three (digital) must be present if you sync multiple boxes together.
