Default Hiding the menu bar

I'm currently running my video off a Satellite LE system, and using the G5 dvi out for picture. Is there a way to hide everything on the screen except the video window. Also is there a plain black background for the monitor screen? I don't see it in the screen background preferences in system prefs.
