Default MBox2 Input levels are WAY TOO HOT...

I have an issue with input levels being too hot. With an Audio Technica 4033 plugged into XLR Input w/ phantom power on and the input level all the way down - I am peaking to distortion when I record anything. With a pad on the mc and the pad on the Mbox too. I can't control my input level. When I plud a guitar in thru the DI it works fine...HELP!
