Default Old man wrist/Pen?/Programable Mouse?

Glad still exists! Been over a decade since I was here last.

I'm not young anymore. The mouse is killing my wrist. Anybody use a stylus for recording/mixing audio? Or recommend a programmable mouse that doesn't kill the wrist?

Everybody seems to be different when it comes to repetitive stress injuries. The slightest differences in motion, body structure, posture and so on can give similar symptoms with different causes. I've dealt with RSI for more than 30 years, but have found a few things that help. One of those is simply moving the mouse over to the other hand. Leave the buttons as they are (if you're a righty, just use righty mouse in left hand). It's not nearly as hard as it might seem. I was never successful with a trackball (it hurt worse for me than the mouse) and the stylus began to cause its own sort of pain after a few months. These days I mainly use a trackpad and it's not bad.

You might think about seeing an occupational therapist once or twice. You probably won't solve the problem immediately, but a good OT can help you understand how that part of your body is working and put you on the road to solving it for yourself. You might need to stretch (carefully) or adjust seat height or any number of things.

I hope you get good ideas from this thread, but it's important to remember that one size definitely does not fit all. Good luck. It's no fun when what you do for a living causes so much pain.

I have moderate to severe osteoarthritis in the base of my right thumb from decades of mouse use.

A few things that have helped me:
1. Logitech MX Vertical Ergonomic Mouse. It takes getting used to but has been a game changer for me.
2. An Apple trackpad I use with my other hand to give my mouse hand a break.
3. Soundflow with Streamdeck to reduce repetitive mouse tasks.
4. Physiotherapy has really helped.
5. Volterol for when it gets really bad!

As Michael says though, we’re all different!

I switched to a Razer Basilisk V3 Pro mouse about a year ago and my wrist is much better.

I switched to trackpad two years ago. It takes the mouse weight off your hand, working for me so far.

Same here, although the MX was a little big for my hand, and I switched down to the Lift. I’d had a wired one previously, but a vertical mouse has made a big difference. I also got one of those fairly large, very thin “gaming” mouse pads. I can lay my forearm on my desk now and keep my wrist in a better position without it “bumping up” like old-school mouse pads.

Vertical mouse here too.

You might have to try a couple to find one that fits your hand/posture.
