Default Enternal clock opinions

I have been thinking about buying an external clock such as a Lucid GNEX-6 to clock my 002 and M-Audio Octane to and was wondering if there would be a noticeable difference in audio quality over the internal 002 clock. I have heard it increases the depth in the recordings and sharpens up transients a bit. Any first hand opinions?

For that kind of money you have a few good options. The best one in my opinion is to have the Black Lyon mode done on your 002. That way you'll have better clock, converters and pres.

You may also be better off getting a nicer pre, or converters before a good clock source.

Thanks for the reply. I have a friend of mine that is looking to sell his Lucid GENX6-96 clock to me for $250 which is quite a bit less than the Black Lyon mod. I also use a pair of Groove Tube Bricks as my main pre's so my thought was if I got a better clock source with less jitter than the 002, that would help the quality of the D/A conversion, is that correct thinking? Would it be a sensible thing to do for $250? I have no experience with any clock other than the 002's so I don't know if it will help, hurt or not do a thing for me.

Usually you will find that you need an external wordclock when you have many devices. See if your friend is willing to let you use the unit for a test. In all honesty I doubt that you will hear a "big" or some difference. I would bet that it will be on par as the clock in the 002.

Anyway, $250 is not a bad deal. But what if you save another $250? you'll be close to the BL mod. A better choice... in my opinion.
