Default "wait for MIDI note" is not working

I'm new to using Pro Tools to run a MIDI recording session, and I'm having a problem with the Wait For Note function. I have Pro Tools v8.0.3. I have Stylus Trilian, a bass virtual instrument, on an Instrument track, controlled by a Novation keyboard. I want Pro Tools to begin recording when I play the first note. Simple enough, right? The Reference Guide says if I have enabled the Wait For Note button, it should not begin recording until a MIDI event is received. So I click on the Wait For Note button and it turns blue. The Trilian track is record-enabled. I hit record, then play, in the transport. As soon as I hit play it begins recording; it doesn't wait for a note. I thought maybe my Novation 37SL keyboard was for some reason sending some MIDI signal, like a clock, constantly. So, to eliminate that possibility I turned off the Novation and tried it again. Same thing. Starts recording immediately, does not wait for note. I searched the DUC and didn't see a thread about this- probably because it's a simple problem that nobody else is having. I'm probably missing something, but I don't know what. It's really preventing me from recording MIDI in Pro Tools the way I want to, so I would appreciate any pointers that anyone has. Also, I've been using Pro Tools for 7 years and have not had any trouble recording audio or even MIDI instruments until I tried to make Pro Tools run the show instead of my hardware sequencers.

My system:
2011 iMac OS X 10.6.8 quad core at 2.5 GHz, 4GB RAM
Pro Tools M-powered v 8.0.3 with M-Audio Fast Track Ultra interface.
Novation ReMOTE 37SL controller/keyboard through USB

Don't hit the play button when using Wait for note. Click record, and just start playing your keyboard.

Thanks PT Lover. That was it exactly. Now I'm cookin'. I knew it was probably something simple, and it was. Thanks again.

Try to midi filter the system exclusive and status codes. Leave on only what you need
