Unable to record to External Hard drive
Hello -
I recently purchased the Pro Tools Express 10.3.4 for audio book recording. I can record to my computer (which I know is not ideal), but am unable to record directly to my external hard drive - Passport Ultra 1 TB - When I try to connect them, I get an error message -5000 that reads I am not authorized to connect Pro Tools to the hard drive. My computer is a MacBook Pro - with the Yosemite update. Can someone help? Many thanks |

Re: Unable to record to External Hard drive
Let me be a little more clear - I can record PT 10.3.4 on my computer (Yosemite - no hacking needed) - but I cannot record directly to my external hard drive -
Thanks |

Re: Unable to record to External Hard drive
But you had to have hacked the installer (or used Migration Assassin) to get PT10.3.4 on a Yosemite computer. And like I said you'll get no help from anyone here or Avid because as I wrote PT10 any version isn't supported on OSX above OSX 10.8.5. No doubt you've run into the issue of not seeing the plugin lists on inserts until you mouse over them (and that's just one issue with trying to run PT10 on Yosemite). And it's this incompatibility that's probably causing your issue.

Re: Unable to record to External Hard drive
I didn't hack into anything (I wouldn't know how to) - the program loaded up without any sort of problem. First, what I'd like to know is what error message -5000 means. If someone can help me with that I'd be grateful.

The reason you can't install PT10 on Yosemite is the installer sees OSX10.10.1 as OSX 10.1 which would be a very early version of OSX (much earlier than the last supported OSX of 10.8.5 for PT10). That is of course if you're running a legitimate copy of PT and not crackware. |

Re: Unable to record to External Hard drive
It sounds like a permissions error. Go into PT 'Workspace' and check that the HD is set to Record (R).
You might also want to check at OS level that that you have both read and write permissions for the HD ("Cmd I"). Finally, make sure that the HD is formatted in line with Avids recommendations. Though as Musicman691 says, the problem might be related to the unsupported configuartion you have. |

Re: Unable to record to External Hard drive
-5000 is OSX's "YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO THIS" error
also 99% of all off the self preforrmatted drives come formatted FAT32 so if you haven't reformatted HFS+ Journaled you have not done what you need to use the drive with your MAC

Re: Unable to record to External Hard drive
Do what Craig and Phil say and you'll most likely be GTG.
