They updated the driver which has some issues and I couldn't make it work.
I downgraded to v16 and everything went smooth again.
Particularly to the AJA Software Installer v16.2.6. Please go to their Download archive:

Had the same problem with the AJA T-TAP Pro. I couldn't make it work and as kind of a last try I downgraded to v16.2.6. No issues since then. The software doesn't have to be running with this version.

Yes, that's the workaround (we actually miss nothing from v17).
I am quite sure Aja is aware of it and is working on update....although I can't speak for them but they were always responsive with their cs support.

Thanks, I've downgraded yesterday and the issues have gone away.

Great.
Btw. Even though the current external models are TB3 only, it'll still work on older TB2 Macs. Just connect a TB3 dock / hub via the apple TB2/TB3 adapter and connect the AJA device via TB3 to the dock.
Tested with a WD Black D50, a nMP 6,1 and rMBP 2013.
I was just curious and couldn't find anything online.
