Default Low ceiling and Dolby Atmos, anyone ?

Hi there,

Has anyone successfully set up and mixed in Atmos in a small room with low ceiling ?

It's an L shape room, height is roughly 7.2'', been using this space to mix broadcast content in stereo and 5.1 without any problems.

Yes, i'm aware of Dolby requirements and DART and i'm not within specs hence the inquiry.

Thx,

Dear Mishabou,

I think you meant 7.2 feet, right? That's 219cm.
We have an Atmos Home mix room with 254cm height. It's not much, but enough. Tops (Genelec 8330) are really close to the ceiling and it works very good.
219cm are much less and I'm not shure if you could do it right. Sorry.

Best
Maik

Yes 7.2 feet...

At 254 cm you are within Dolby's requirement. My inquiries are mainly for people who managed to successfully install/mix Atmos in rooms with lower ceiling.

I know of people who have done this. All of them are using the PMC Ci/Wafer series speakers (because they are on-wall/flat speakers) for the top speakers and tend to space them a little further away than the 1/3 width spacing (just to give a little more distance) and have the speakers angled to the mix position (not flush to the ceiling.)

And, delays are necessary to compensate for the shorter distance to the mix position (handled by the MTRX). These are pre-mix/pre-dub rooms (taken to a large Dolby dub theater later) but they've not had any trouble with translation (no adjustments needed once taken to the larger space)

Do you have any links to these studios ? Thx

The pre-dub/pre-mix rooms are private so I can’t disclose.
