Default newb:audio input + firewire = silence

Hi all,

I'm new here, and just picked up my MBox 2 Pro today. I've gone through the "Getting Started" guide and surfed these forums for about an hour without luck.

My problem is that DI audio (a guitar in this case) produces no audio out. What's weird is if I disconnect the firewire, then it works. Reconnect it - no love again. I listened to the sample session that ships with PT and it worked fine (with the firewire connected, obviously). I know the guitar signal is reaching the MBox because the clipping light turns red.

Am I missing something obvious? Is it firewire incompatibility? Any advice greatly appreciated.

My config (homebuilt):
WinXP Pro SP2
ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe
Athlon X2 4800+
2 Gig RAM
Cool & Quiet disabled
AVG anti-virus (any known probs here?)
Silverstone 600W PS

Thanks,
Randy

we'll start basic and work up:

have you record enabled a track?

What is the input set to on the track you're trying to get signal to? If you plug the DI into pre 1, make sure the track is set to analog 1.

Make sure your track is either bussed to A 1-2 or routed to other auxes that end up going to A 1-2...hope that makes sense, its late and sounded better in my head

Thanks! My I/O didn't even have analog ins listed. Hitting the defaults button made everything show up. Kind of odd. This is a fresh install - it seems to me that the defaults would be, well, the defaults when you first install.

Anyhoo, all is well. Thanks so much.

Randy
