Default best way for using large sound libraries

Hi,
I wonder what's the best way for saving large sound libraries from Virtual Instruments. Sample sounds are larger every time so, sooner or later the internal hard drive is not enough for keeping all those libraries.
I'd like to hear experiences with different options, like:
USB hard drives? Is it possible?
Perhaps it's better an additional Firewire drive, besides the one being used PT sessions?
I have a laptop, so a second internal hard drive is not an option.

Firewire drives are quite the popular option.
I have 2 LaCies (D2 120GB + 200GB); it's where I keep all my audio, samples, sessions, mixes, iTunes library, etc.

Hi guys, beware of LaCie drives - I have one too (a 200GB triple interface) & have had no trouble... however many people have reported on them going down. Aparently, LaCie are filling them with the cheapest possible PATA HDD's they can aquire... Glymph or Granite are suppost to be more solid. I use mine for B/U purposes only (i.e. a mirrored drive, so always have another internal copy). In case this is useful...
