Protools Lag Issue
I decided to move to PT9 from Logic and this is the error I get when I play my songs in PT9.
I only imported 5 stereo WAV files 16 bit 44.1khz and not running any plugins except 1 instrument track thats using BOOM for drums. I tried increasing buffer size and all that but I think its just stupid coz if i increase to 1024 i will just get latency. So I'm just sticking to 512 thats the highest i'd go but then again I still get this lag and from time to time the increase buffer error. It's getting really annoying. Sometimes the track plays and when i hit space bar the song wont stop until like after 5 - 10 seconds of lag. HOW CAN I FIX THIS? This is pretty bad. I use to run logic with gazillions of plugins and it worked just fine. I am running an iMac duo core - Snow Leopard with 4GB of Ram and I PURPOSELY swapped back to a 7200RPM 2TB hard drive that I cloned off from my previous old HD that was 5200RPM. Although 5200 was running fine with logic I decided to switch it to 7200 for the sake of PT9. I use M-audio Firewire 410 interface. I also tried not using my interface but I still have the same issue. I'm wondering if its my system itself that has a problem. should i do a fresh OS install instead of cloning from my 5200RPM HD? I really dont see anything wrong with my spec it should be more than enough to run PT9. So how do I fix this god damn error??? |

Re: Protools Lag Issue
This is an external drive, right? You're not running the session off of your system drive?

Re: Protools Lag Issue
I tried both.
I tried running everything on my internal drive which is a 2TB 7200rpm HD. Problem persists. I tried only running PT9 off my internal HD and audio files off external firewire HD which has a rate of 800mb/sec and problem still persists too.. I've pretty much tried everything I can think of. Just havent tried installing a fresh OSX without cloning my old hard drive. |

Re: Protools Lag Issue
You don't have to worry about latency if you're just mixing. That only applies to tracking. But with that computer you should have no problem with a hardware buffer of 64 in moderate size sessions.
What does "lag" mean?

Re: Protools Lag Issue
Well I do tracking and mixing too. anyways basically at any setting my protools response slowly. e.g. after i start playing the song when i wanna stop it i get like a 5-10second delay before it stops. Or when its playing and Im in another window and try to switch back to my PT window it delays too as if its frozen.
I basically cant accept myself working like that. And I believe it shouldnt even suppose to act this way. |

Re: Protools Lag Issue
Go into Preferences and find the Record Allocation setting(which defaults to no limit). Set it for 15 minutes and see what happens.
