Can anyone suggest a 2 channel pre-amp to track my keyboards?
Can anyone suggest a good 2 or 4 channel pre-amp to track my keyboards anywhere between $1000-$2000?
Thanks

Do I understand that your goal is to amplify the output of a modern MIDI keyboard so that you can record it with a typical A/D converter into Pro Tools?
If so, I'd recommend against purchase of a costly rarefied preamp, saving those for sources where you actually need some voltage gain. Your keyboards probably have nominal outputs of -10dB, so you're likely needing less than 12dB of gain to record at reasonable level. At the risk of being appalling, I'll disclose that I use the Mackie XDR pre's on my 1604 keyboard mixer for modern MIDI keyboards and a Rhodes 88 (which truly need some voltage gain). On occasion the keybord is run directly to the A/D interface, with no interim gain stage. Perhaps the intent is to use the preamp as an effect to color the sound, not for gain. Sure, buy a Manley, but is this really where you should be spending that kind of money? My last mic pre purchase was a True Audio Precision 8, offering 8 channels in one rack space for $1800. It is most impressive to me in terms of sonic quality, gain, and noise. It would certainly fit your use, and would tolerate much more demanding microphone sources as well, should that be of interest. Good luck, John Caldwell [This message has been edited by Mount Royal (edited May 07, 2001).]

Re: Can anyone suggest a 2 channel pre-amp to track my keyboards?
Dear Imagine,
it's a level issue, a comp issue or a sound issue? Keyboards sounds lifeless, sometimes i patch the keyboard to a '70 big (130x50x40 cm) stereo valve radio and put 2 mikes in a large room... ------------------ somewhere in the planet
