Default Midi Question

Is there a way w/PT LE to use midi to sequence a song (say a drum track) and then replace the midi controler sounds w/sampled sounds? (i.e., can I assign the midi out to play sampled sounds in PT or something of that nature) I want to avoid purchasing addition software/hardware. Thanks!

Sure.

First, Make sure youre in Grid Mode. Second, import the specific sounds you wish to use into your session.
Now, Sequence your drum part. Quantize it. When that is complete, resize the MIDI track by clicking on the little keyboard at the beginning of the track and select the "single note" option to be displayed. Select the note you wish to start with. I suggest the note that represents the kick first, snare second, etc.
Create an audio track. Name it "Kick". Now, using the MIDI notes as a placement reference. Drag your new "kick" sample and line it up with that note according to the grid.

Thats the hard way. Why someone would want to do it that way I have no idea.

Heres an easier approach:
If you have good rythm sense and are familiar with beats and measures, you can simply just use the grid to create your drum tracks from scratch. There is really no need for MIDI sequencing in this case. Save yourself some headache and try it this way.

Hi electrobank,
Great explanation. Myself, I use your simple way, because I'm used to it now, but when there is a very intricate part, usually hats, or say snare ghost notes, I use your first part, the 'Midi track template', too.
I was thinking though, it might be good if you would add your excellent explanation to DaBasstard's tip site, just if you get time. It would probably save a lot of re-explaining.
It's a very good basic how-to, I think.

thanks, Roy
