Default Automation and functionality

I'm just doing some research because I want to rethink my digital set up. with the artist control do you get all of the control capabilities you would with say a 003 control surface or command 8? do you have full automation functionality? are there any drawbacks or benefits compared to other control surfaces?

Thanks for any help

with the native EuCon support in PT9 they have gotten rid of the automation controls (write, touch, etc.) per channel... so you will still have to mouse those in, besides that I have been liking the unit a lot more than the command 8s I have used in the past, the hardware quality is not up to snuff with anything like an icon or a c24 for that matter but it does well enough.

I have no problems, per channel, changing the automation mode (you don't have direct access to a specific mode, but you can cycle through them), but there is no global automation switch.

The artist series places itself squarely in between the 002 / command 8 / mackie control and the more robust (and more expensive) pro lines (pro control, c 24, icon, system 5mc etc). Better than the 002 side, not quite as good as the more expensive options.
