Default Protools 8

Check it out; http://mixonline.com/ms/aes/new_prod.../DAWs_editors/

DIGIDESIGN PRO TOOLS 8: Pro Tools 8 (which includes Pro Tools HD, Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools M-Powered) has been completely updated with a new user interface, dozens of new bundled plug-ins (including five new virtual instruments and 20 effects), fully integrated MIDI and score editors, and expanded editing features. The user interface is enhanced with a more modern color palette and higher-contrast text and graphics, yet the key functions users rely on are still right where they should be, while enhancements—such as dockable Editor windows and a configurable Edit Window toolbar—make it easier to navigate than ever. Pro Tools 8 software will be available in late 2008 for Windows Vista (32-bit Business or Ultimate), Windows XP and Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)-based Pro Tools HD, Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools M-Powered systems. AES Booth: #702.

The new features won't mean a thing if they haven't improved stability in general and also increased compatibility with modern 64-bit systems.

When a $50 program like Reaper is eating your lunch, it's time for real change, not just new frosting on top of the old rotten cake.

And I will likely wait for cs1 to fix the bugs that always accompany every new version. It does sound interesting though.

At the time of this post there are 311 people who have view the post so definite there is interest. As for the 6 replies so far (including your own posts) there is not much to say in addition to their announcement. Those of us who have been around here and Protools for a while know that untill something ships, any announcements and rumors are still uncertain.

Most people have already commented on a realted thread a little while back about the "smell of Protools 7.5 in the air." Then as now, most people want ADC and 64-bit OS compatibility, but that is not listed in the new features so there is a rather "ho-hum" response.

I for one always look forward to new versions of Protools simply because I like to poke around it. For me Protools is still mostly a hobby rather than my full time job so I can affort to try out new versions with no financial impact. I can see for professionals that make their living with Protools that a wait and see attitude is prudent to avoid being the "beta tester" for Digidesign.

Let's hope PT8.0 is a good one. If not then maybe 8.1...or 8.2...(you get the idea)

Ain't that the truth.

I feel if there is no 64 bit then it's not an improvement. That is a deprovement.

When you hear Professional Music and sounds in Movies now it blows away the quality and effects the average person can do a 32 bit system with something like Pro Tools LE. The sound quality with Pro Tools LE just seems to stay the same and gets further away from the improvements in sound quality in the commercial industry. The gap used to be a lot smaller in differences from LE recording to commerical recordings. It's frustrating running out of resources on my high end 32 bit system and not being able to do all the effects and high sample rates that I could do on a 64 bit system.

I'd rather have 64 bit power then lame features I would never use and a new interface that I am going to have to relearn. When they do have cool features or effects I then never have enough resources to benifit from them so whats the point. Just my opinion.
