How to select 2-4 sec. of audio while zoomed in

I find that I'd like to select audio for editing while zoomed in to a high degree. How can you select a a very detailed point say, 1:15.365 to 1:18.657 easily? Right now while I'm zoomed in I select the start point and then scroll like crazy with the touch pad on my laptop. It's a long long ways to a point 2-3 seconds away in the audio when trying to do it this way. There's got to be a better way.

0) Make sure that time-line is linked to edit-selection (shift+/)
1) Use pull-down on the main counter to select units of choice (bars:beats/mins:secs/samples)
2) Click in the main counter and type in the start/end using the keyboard
