Default 3 things I can\'t do in OSX

1) Mount a hot swop SCSI drive (yes I know we can't do this)

2) Share a mounted SCSI drive on the network

3) Name the AppleTalk Zone in a Peer to Peer network

Any clues?

Isn't there a way in the terminal to force the system to poll for SCSI devices (the way it does on startup)?

As for sharing, what exactly are you trying to do. This should not be a problem.

This is the reply I got, although I can't get it to work (maybe because the scsi drives have fwb drivers instead of apple's?).

OS X has no ability to mount scsi drives with restarting the computer.

There is a workround that involves using the Terminal.
Run the Terminal and type the following:-
sudo autodiskmount
Then quit and restart the Finder and hey presto.

Hope that helps,

sudo autodiskmount doesn't work.
Sharing appears to want to work from your 'own' directory or from the 'shared' directory. The mount point of a SCSI volume seems to be outside this range. (I am sure that one could manipulate the dev mount point in the Terminal Window - but life is too short).
As for the AppleTalk Zone - I can 'seed' a new zone name on a Windows 2000 machine, but can't do it on a Mac.

Supposedly ATTO is releasing a util that will let you mount SCSI drives in OS X in a month or so.

Thanks ATTO for bailing us out of apple's stupidity again!

What did they think - that everyone with SCSI drives who has had them since the mac was invented was just suddenly going to want to voluntarily restart their "crashproof" system every few minutes.

Somewhat seems to defeat the point I think.............
