Can an internet virus affect my Mix card?
Obviously, I'm not talking about the virus plug-in. The question as entered in the subject says it all (well, almost).
I've been told that for the most part, internet viruses tend not to affect a computer's hardware components, and that viruses are far more common on to PC than Mac. Still, there is always the possibility that some nut will write a harmful enough virus to cause inexorable problems within a host computer's software (i.e. - the viurs could affect its OS and PT software, for that matter). I would like to use the same computer for both working with PT24 Mix and surfing the internet. I've been concerned that this computer could become infected with an internet virus that might disable it, thereby disabling my PT system in the same fell swoop. Any down time for my studio due to such a problem could easily cost me money, possibly even clients. I'm wondering if I can put up an "impenetrable" firewall or some comparable means of virus protection that will keep everything safe enough. Any suggestions/advice? Scald |

Re: Can an internet virus affect my Mix card?
Your fear should not be viruses , lightning is the quickest killer of computer hardware,
if your trying to save money by having the internet and you more expensive Digi stuff on the one computer; make sure you use protection... |

Re: Can an internet virus affect my Mix card?
The dawghouse has had good success with Norton AV. One weakness is the ATA zip drive on the Yosemite & higher machines.
FWIW. Norton 5 AV seems to miss ATA connected (internal) zips. The virus to watch out for is the dreaded MBDF/ab.One must have a bootable Norton AV disc for your machine, on hand as well as an ADB port w/ old mac keyboard- for holding down the letter 'c'. I let Norton run on autoprotect (all safezone) without any problems.

Re: Can an internet virus affect my Mix card?
It has been suggested: Never leave your CD ROM player set to 'autostart'.
This will prevent the 'autostart worm' attack. And occassionally update your AV definition files and run a scan ALWAYs with the boot-up disc- so a virus will not be retained in memory.
