might be worth checking that DMA is enabled in both BIOS and windows.

Not much here about the 400FSB Barton 3000+. $10 more than 333FSB at Newegg. Thoughts?

Would anything else have to change for it to be compatable using the A7V600? PC 3200 ram maybe?

I think I found the problem with the audio drive. It seems to be set to PIO rather than DMA which I found out looking in the device manager under secondary IDE. Couldn't find anywhere to change this in BIOS or windows.

Both IDE are set to DMA if available. Could it be that the audio drive is not formatted properly? I used Partition magic and formatted the drive NTFS.

Can anyone tell me how I can change the Audio HD from PIO to DMA? I can't find it in BIOS anywhere and in Hardware Device Manager, it says "DMA if Avialable" and below that it says "PIO" and that is greyed out. Where can I change this?

Ok, I really need all the experts help here!!!!

I installed a 2500+ on a A7V600 board with 512Mb Micron PC2700 ddr sdram

The system boots up at 1100Mhz, Freq Multiple 11.0 and Ext Freq 100/33 Mhz
This shows up as the system running at 1.09 Ghz!!
I was able to fool with the settings and get it running faster but is unstable and shuts down. I read where Recording Guy set the CPU speed at 2200Mhz and the ram at 400Mhz, but every time I try this the system hangs up for improper CPU speed.

HELP!!!!!!!!

What speed should this CPU run at? Why doesn't the board automatically set the correct settings?
How can I get it to run at 2200Mz and the ram @ 400Mhz?
Is there something I should do in the bios?

80 Mb system drive on mobo
2 x 120 Mb Audio drive on Promise Sata card

Feel free to make any suggestions, this is my first time attempting to build a system.

My settings are

cpu speed 2200
Cpu Freq 11 x
cpu external freq 200/40 and pretty much everything else on auto

this is on an a7v333-x mb - ram 512 corsair 3200

While we're on the trouble shooting thing, just brought some files home from pro studio running mac, files transfered brilliantly bby the way (sigh of relief) but had some strange errors regarding buffer size... one minute it tells me to increase my buffer size, then to decrease my bufffer size? just about every time i opened an existing session it went the opposite way increase - decrease - increase etc? any ideas? though once i changed it for that session it functioned perfectly, only having an error each time i opened a new session? hmmm??

Thanks for the settings Mick7777

HELP!!!!!!!!

My 2500+ installed on a A7V600 doesn't allow me to select 2200 MHz (11.0, 200/33) or 1833 MHz (11.0x, 166/33) without hanging up. Everyone else on this thread is able to just change the settings in the bios to 2200 MHz and it seems to work just fine! I tried again and I got the dreaded blue error screen in XP. Now I have multiple errors in and will probably have to do a reinstall of XP, again!

Does anyone have any ideas what is going on?
If I have a bad component which one would you think it is: processor, mobo, ram?

Recording Guy, Shan, Allen and anyone else who has any ideas I really will appreciate the help!!!!!!

Thanks, Mike

Set the bios to defualt settings...
Then set the CPU speed to 2200...
Set the Ram speed to 400...
Do not use turbo mode...
Start with this.

I had the same issue with the AV7600 and an XP3000 (400fsb) chip (bios v1005). It would never run faster 1100mhz. Any other setting would make it lock up and/or crash, reboot start to load OS, crash, reboot etc, etc.... Finally replaced chip with an XP2200 which I overclocked to 2000mhz and it works fine. I'm trying to get a replacement for the XP3000 chip right now but the vendor is not being very cooperative. Bottom line it never did work.

That really is strange. My XP3000 (333) worked fine with my A7V600. It runs by default at 2300 MHz.

Shouldn't the XP300 run a little faster than that? My old system - XP2400 ran at 2000, the XP2200 defaults to 1800. Perhaps it's an issue with the 400 fsb for me, though it shouldn't be. The mobo is 400, the chip is 400 and the memory is 400. There shouldn't (ha!) be any compatability issues. Or maybe the chip's bad, and we all know there 'aint nuthin' worse than a good chip gone bad.
