Re: Best System for PTLE for under $1000.00
Allen,
Thanks, found the header in a box of stuff I didn't think I neded. Got the drive installed and had trouble becasue I needed FAT32 and the only option it gave me was NTFS. Finnaly figured out to reduce the partition size to 32G and FAT32 miraculously popped up in the options. Can't imagine being able to get all this done without the help here on the DUC and from you especially Allan. Mny, many thanks and good karma will obviously follow you all the days of your life. rick |

Re: Best System for PTLE for under $1000.00
I too want to thank Allen and everyone else who helped me with my Allen PC. I finally got my A7V333-XL & AMD 2800+ to co-exist (see Gene's post in the 'AMD Barton' thread). Now I'm enjoying 2.083GHz cpu speed! Many thanks Allen and all!

Re: Best System for PTLE for under $1000.00
Thought I'd better post that fix here too:
go to PCI configuration then go to PRIMARY VGA BIOS [PCI VGA BIOS CARD] make sure it says [AGP VGA CARD]. Congrats on getting your system up and running full speed. Allen |

Re: Best System for PTLE for under $1000.00
Just swapped out the WD 80GB drives for the new Hitachi/IBM 120GB 8MB cache 180GXP series drives. Quieter and faster than the WD drives and come with 3 year manufacturer warranty despite the misprint at www.newegg.com of one year.

Re: Best System for PTLE for under $1000.00
I also see you've got the XP 3000 up there now... is anyone actually using one yet? Anyone with a Digi 002? Any DaveC test results yet with that CPU?
I'll probably just wait for a clawhammer, but if it's faster than my 2700...

Re: Best System for PTLE for under $1000.00
Hey everyone,
I'm building an PC to run PTLE / 001. I've purchased everything on the main page of this thread (Just waiting for my volcoano 9 to arrive to begin assembly). I have a few quick questions: 1.) I ordered the most recent power supply listed (EG365P-VE), and because of the extra fan on top of the power supply, it doesn't look like it will easily be installed into the recommended case without some physical alterations to either the case or the power supply. Anyone else run into this? Am I missing an obvious solution? 2.) I'm noticing that pretty much every step by step walkthrough recommended here focuses a lot of time on promise cards, which aren't mentioned in the first post of the thread. Is this required? If not how much better is the performance with a promise card? 3.) What's te best source for this arctic paste everyone talks about? Hardware store? A certain website? Thanks a lot in advance for any help you can give me. cheers, ak |
