Well, I feel the betrayal, but at the same time I understand their need to move on. Avid isn't the nice guy next door who helps when things break, they're a corporation which needs to weigh costs spent on continuing older technology no one is still buying vs. appeasing those clients who still use the tech.

The larger part of me is angry that such an expensive board -- still in use -- is being retired, while the smaller part of me gets Avid's actions.

And, yes, hopefully Neyrinck will connect the dots as they have in the past and give us a few more years.

Seeing as fabfilter just sent a mass email about silicon AAX comparability, and VisLM was updated this morning, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if 2022.3 dropped in the morning.

Ah! Yes! I’ll finally start saying 2023 around September if history is a good predictor…

The Apple Beta discussion has left the Avid Link Lounge. So I'd guess that PT is no longer beta?

Wow. Seems imminent now.

I can't even get my Apple USB keyboard from those years to work. Considering those devices were all software-based, and that Neyrick V-Control seems to offer a solution for users of those old devices, I don't really see it as a betrayal, as much as "Hey... good luck finding a NuBus computer for your Session 8 cards, and a leaded gas pump for your '67 Chevy, as well"

It's technology. Sadly, we have to migrate some parts to what's current every so often. Lord knows I don't want to pay again either, but I do have to be able to work in contemporary styles and workflows in order to attract new business from current/new clients.
I hear you, but it's not like the C24 is just some accessory from some third party supplier. C24 and D-Command are Avid's very own products. Nor is it the case that there are any technical problems with the C24. On the contrary, these parts are built rocksolid and generally run like clockwork to this day. The Econ units may have more features, but in terms of build quality and feel, they seem like plastic toys compared to the D-Command and C-24.

And as for your '67 Chevy gas pump comparison: ideally, Avid should not orient itself to the middle class, but of course to the best: if you have, for example, a '67 Mercedes Benz 230 SL in the garage, you can find the corresponding spare parts online without much trouble.

Besides, in our case it's not about hardware, but only about software support. Avid/Digidesign has always demanded premium prices for their parts, now they have to offer premium service as well.

I am also saddened if C24 does not make it, as its end of support was just 31-DEC-2022. It has served me well on live gigs, but if it doesn't make it, life goes on.
