Default JL Cooper cs 10 serial**PLEASE HELP**

Hi there,
I recently got a cs 10 serial port original controller.

How the hell do i get it controlling :->??
does it have its own installation software?

I have SD II 2.8.3 and PT 4.01 running on a quadra 650.

Does it go directly to the printer or modem plugs?

Do i need a midi interface or CS edit to make it work?

I've read every post on the cs10 that is in this forum ...but no answers!

cheers,

hi,

you need a midi to mac converter.
Connect midi both ways.
Use the modemport and let OMS look for the modemport.

Look in the OMS Instruction for the midi device options.

bye

Thanx Welli,

I have a midi interface but the cs10 has only the same plug as a modem or printer port.

How do i configure this??

Nymo,

I'm trying to work from memory here.

Connect your CS-10 directly to either the modem or printer port. One of them works better, just not sure which is it.

You then need to run OMS. Tell OMS which port to look for MIDI (that's the port the CS-10 is connected to)

Once it detects the port, create a new MIDI device and call it CS-10. Make sure you select it as a controller (don't believe you have to select multitimbral...). I also believe the CS-10 only sends out info on one MIDI channel?

Make current and save the OMS session.

After that, make sure you configure your ProTools to let it know you're using a CS-10 MIDI controller.

Or I could be getting too old ...........

Hi thanks Samhein,

Yeah thats exactly what i had tried...so thanks very much for clarifying that for me.

The cs 10 has 2 ports ..one is com and one is external....which should be the output?

Every time i press a button it it shows a sequential number for each button or control...is this some kind of midi controller numbers ??

cheers

Hmmm.... I wish I could remember. I'm sure you have tried both. I think one is meant for connecting directly to the Mac's serial port, and the other for a MIDI interface or something.

Actually, why don't you just check with the JLCooper guys directly? That would be the best.

Thanx to everyone for your replies...

Will troubleshoot it with different cables etc.(or if anyone has a cheap cs edit.....?)

I cannot contact JL Cooper because

1. They don't have an email address that works yet????? and

2. I live in Australia and I'm asleep when you are awake and vice versa.

Does anyone have any experience with the direct connection of the one that i have??

cheers

Have got the same problem, unfortunately have not received a PM-answer from Nymo so far.

I have a JL-Cooper CS-10 and would like to use SD 2.8.3 with it. The CS-10 has got a serial "Ext" and "Com" Port.

SD II uses Midi obviously for JL Cooper, in the Preferences menu I can choose an OMS Midi port for JL-Cooper.

So do I need this CS-Edit box? Could this be done with any serial to Midi gear like an Opcode Midi interface? When using a CS-Edit box, does this need a special software for setup (have read something like this)?

And what about the CS-1/CS-10 extension that comes with Sound Designer II, is that for the ADB version of a CS-1?

An help is much appreciated!
