Track folders would also be a very handy feature. It is visually very useful to be able to open and close a group of tracks with a click. You can keep them out of the way when not using them, then open them up for tweaking. I'm sure people who run sessions with dozens of tracks would save a great deal of time with it.

It was pretty interesting. If you haven’t looked at Ideascale lately, these are the most requested features:
5. Bus Solo Feature – soloing a track will automatically solo any tracks routed to it. Now you have to solo all the tracks together, which can be a pita at times.
4. A Polarity Switch on Every Channel – Most all hardware mixers have polarity inversion buttons at the top of a channel strip. It would seem natural for PT to have that as well.
3. Markers – As in MORE marker lanes. Right now we can only have one lane of markers. How often have you wished you could have one lane of markers for marking song sections, and another for marking when instruments come in and out and a third for something else (and maybe a fourth or fifth for other things). As the article says, the potential for uses is endless. +1000 for me on this one!
2. Save and Load Plugin Chains – Have a favorite plugin chain you like to use session after session. Wouldn’t it be nice to create your favorite chain and be able to save it as a custom set up and then call it up to place on a track with one click, instead of having to reinstall each one separately each time.
1. And the top vote getter is…drumroll please…Folders in the Clip List. Wouldn’t it be nice to group clips and put them in folders for easy recall later? This would be especially useful for all the post people out there.
The article provides the links to Ideascale for each one of these so you can cast your vote.
Personally, though, I think the article missed the REAL number one most requested feature: STABILITY!

  1. Develop MIDI and change the concept of windows and drop-down menus.
  2. Organize playlists for MIDI.
  3. Offer an arpeggiator and other MIDI inserts
  4. Improve the solo function for listening to playlists in a general context
  5. Develop markers and move them by group
  6. Enter a "G" in the header, such as the "S" of solo or "M" of mute, to quickly indicate whether the GROUP function is active or not.
  7. Allow to change the background color of the edit window and may add colors or shades
  8. Add the color window to the header

Not experiencing that here in the Mac-land, but agreed, stability back to what it was at 8.1.1 (the last of the Digidesign-branded releases)

My Wishes

1 - Two AVID Engineers, a product manager and a Logic Pro 10.3 Power user.
Explaining and show-casing what is possible in 2017 with a computer - Music Wise.

2 - Force an AVID CEO to Compose a song in Protools using VIs Only and track Vocals while they are running. If he manages to pull thru' without a heart attack or other serious head injuries - chances are that Protools will change rapidly.

A few years ago - Logic Pro product managers did a very smart move... They looked to Protools and felt the pulse of its users and compared that to the wishes of their users. Then they simply put -> Copied and where necessary modified Protools' strongest features and incorporated them in to Logic.

It is not like AVID don't know what is needed. They don't even need to invent anything. All they need to do is download a 99 Dollar DAW and check out what is great about it, compare it to Protools and if those features aren't in Protools - Implement them...

There are 2 things you can do about it.

1) You can have tracks assigned to a group and a VCA master assigned to that group that then can solo/mute all tracks of the group (and allow group fader manipulations). Not simple to think about though... You have a bunch of tracks routed in an aux but you have to group them and assign a VCA to manage the solo/mute functionalities!

2) You can also simply group the tracks and configure the Mix Attributes for this group so that it soloes the group entirely (Modify Group > Attributes > Solos and you have to uncheck "Follow Globals", simple no?). It's not "on" by default when you create a group.

Track folders would be great, as well as all the other features mentioned, and also stability and an audio engine that knows how to handle voltage addition, which is not the case anymore since PT12 is out.
