Default XP/WIN 98 dual boot

Arctur, thanks for that detailed reply. I called the guy who is building my rig and gave him your steps word for word. He was not happy, but I don't care. I'm just happy this is going to be done correctly. The whole reason I spent the money for more speed and memory was to make the DAW disappear. And if doing a dual boot will help, I'm all for it.

I'm musician who was drawn to 001 because it seemed like it was made for people who weren't techies or engineers. But it was the advice I've recieved in the forums that has really helped me.

One other question for everyone: I found in a different thread a whole series of things to disable in Windows XP to help processsing speed. The list is VERY long. The guy building my guitar expressed disbelief that turning off all these background apps would make a difference. In his opinion they had add-up to 2% of the total processing power. Although a card-carrying TweakHead, he has no audio (and certaintly no ProTools) background. Is he right?

Hi again!
Where did you get this list? Could you mail me, or write down in the DUC? I have disabled some options, but XP sometimes starts working on unused drives (defragmenting, or whatever). It definately takes more than 2% of power! I´m very interested in that list!
