If you miss paying every year, then $999 for one year to reinstate.

or

Every year $999 (which is the subscription plan.) That does not go to $399; it always stays at $999/year.

So if you do the math, it's at year 5 that the perpetual license starts saving you money. Year 4, the perpetual would have cost in total $4095 and the subscription $3996. At year 5, perpetual would have cost to that point $4494 and subscription would be $4995.

Also the Yearly $999 will not become a perpetual license as it will stop working when you stop paying. The same setup as the monthly subscription of non HD at $25. So you will not have a working PT when you stop the subscription of HD or non HD options. Something to think about there ...

Taken from here :

ow you can subscribe to Pro Tools on an annual basis. Your subscription includes Pro Tools | HD software, bonus plug-ins, and access to Avid Customer Care, which provides all future Pro Tools updates, upgrades, and expert help, for as long as your subscription is active.

Hardware man, that’s where it’s at.....

I know a guy running PT7.4HD on a G5 but he has all the front end you could dream of.......

A Neve Console, LA2A, 1176’s Telefunken’s

It’s about the front end hardware- that will never loose value.

PT is the vehicle not the end result

Default Re: Please vote to split the yearly fee for HD

I have HD lic parked at 11
I have my "mobile" with now 12 native

I had a mac tower HD full studio and home setup

Now I just have home/mobile.. PT12 Native is great [ish] 99 per year which is not nothing buuut it works well enough

the HD..well, I wriggled out of the HW: 16x16, native card, had omni..

great converters stuff, But needs HD lic for it to "work"... and I LIKE 12 now.. [not 2 years ago]

So this 11hd Lic is sitting and I suppose I dump it too.
the only dif are the surround and clip FX

Im free to look at all the other HW.. most has 0 latency routing. Avid needs to BE nicer to Us HD people that PAID waaaay more for Evvverything..

And in this climate Im not buying the " professional, gets paid more BS" you can afford it,..everyone Nickels and dimes, and doesnt pay for months

Avid would DO WELL to declare an amnesty for a month discount reinstatement crap and get all those rigs out there up to speed.. and SPLIT the FEE
they would make more $$ in the long run

as it is Im out of HD ball and chain.. and looking at my DUC "join" date you can see Ive been in for a while

I'm in the same boat, if it works and works well, the next upgrade needs more than just bells and whistles, but something that will tangibly change every mix/edit session in a BIG $999 way.

And I kind of felt that when I was at NAMM and saw the new 2018.1. Very impressive.
Now of course one would want to wait till they fix a handful of bugs over the next 4-6 months. 2018.1 barely came out and there's a plethora of threads/pages of issues and bugs, over 60 threads and it hasn't been a month yet.

The way I see I’ve saved thousands $$$ since PT12 HD release.

I’ve remained on 11, and do not feel I’ve missed a thing. There a couple of nice additions, but nothing that justifies the thousands of dollars I would have spent by paying one cent to the extortion plan!

Best Protools decision I’ve made since I started on HD way back at PTHD6.

Avid... $200 for 24/7 hr support is "a deal"
but its no deal if you dont need it
split the fee
and this reinstatement is waayy over the top..

Right, so long term perpetual is cheaper vs rental. And even cheaper for me as it seems it is an 1800 upgrade from vanilla.

but the HD N and HDX i am looking at include the HD software.. So that's what I am asking, do those versions that come bundled with certain HD hardware options renew at 399 per year?

AND btw, waves have this spot on.. your wup can expire for years, and no penalties to buy later.

All other subscriptions i am on do not have a lapse penalty.

Avid is a bit greedy in that scenario, cause it would make no difference to some people not to pay the fee for 2 years for example, as the software may bring no features they want.

It should be that when the software has a feature that is must have to each particular end user, that they can upgrade without penalty then.

This has to change.

I suppose we can talk with our wallets and all stop upgrading lol.
