Default Wide&Narrow

Steve, I've got a 2940 with a wide on the internal (Adaptec) wide bus, and a narrow on its internal (Adaptec) narrow bus. Shall I remove the narrow from the Adaptec's 50 pin internal and put it on the Mac internal narrow bus? I'm don't want to inhibit the performance of the wide bus.
Thanks in advance,

What Mac do you have? This is important since the Mac bus may or may not be as fast as the Adaptec narrow connection, depending on the Mac.

Also, are you usually recording to or playing back from both drives at the same time? If not, then there's no reason to move the drive. If you are, if might make a difference.

One other factor to keep in mind: I believe you can only use two ports of the Adaptec card at a time. So, if you wanted to add an external drive, you'd have to disconnect one of the drives on either of the two internal connectors. It has to do with the way the bus is terminated.

Thanks for responding so quickly, Steve. I have a PTP 225. I usually use the wide exclusively for Pro Tools. I am considering putting video for use with PTools on the narrow device connected to the Adaptec card. I've been using another drive on the Mac internal bus for video (not the boot drive, these are narrow, fast drives.) Regarding external drives on the Adaptec, I've set it up so I never go external; you're right. What do you think?

I'm not sure what the bus speed is on the Power Towers, but I assume it's fast SCSI. If that's true, then I'd relocate the video drive to the internal bus, especially if you're going to be pulling audio and video at the same time.
