Default DDS 3 storage

I'm installing a system based on a G3 B&W, 24MIX+, expanded Pro Control, Atto Expres PCI card, and Glyph media sorage systems that include 4 9Gb Seagate HD's and a Sony SDT-9000 Data Dat Drive that will be used as a back up medium.

Anyone out there who can guide me on the process of installing such unit? It came with FWB software, but althoug it says its compatibility is full and it recognizes it, it doesn't allow me to format it or mount it. I'm using a brand new Sony DDS 3 tape, so that shouldnt't be a problem.

Thanks,

Rod.

A nice DDS machine, I strongly suggest retrospect software. I always have trouble with FWB, even for hard disc set ups.....although, a lotta' guys like it.

You need to start a storage set with FWB, add the tape to the storage set and give FWB permission to erase the tape or remove it from it's previous set. I have also had this, tape full, storage set full error....it is a tricky one if you have never seen it before. Make sure FWB supports that machine.

The SDT series is excellent.

Sorry Editor, but I'd have to disagree about Retrospect. In my six years experience i've found Mezzo (with Protools enabler) to be the most reliable and usable back-up software for Protools. Especially with DDS 2/DDS 3 tape drives.

I know a lotta' guys like mezzo, always open to new ideas here; what are the main advantages with mezzo?

In nearly a decade retrospect has not messed up and I gotta' give that snaps.

Oh yes now I remember, Mezzo cannot be scripted. I like to use the auto schedule back up function in retrospect and retrospect remote for networks. That way I can go away and Retrospect remembers to do a back up, even if I forget. The auto schedule feature alone, is worth the price of admission.
