Default Digi 002 FW issues

This one just blows my mind. I ran a stable session for 5 or 6 hours on my iBook G4 800 using the 002r and a FW harddrive. I had it running 8 channels into the 002 from a Reel to reel, and it went in without a flaw. I opened the same session this morning and was plauged with -6085 errors (buffer underrun). This reall started to tick me off, so i searched the topic.

There is a known issue (i missed this one) with the use of FW drives on my computer (A FW800 G4).
Quote:
Recording with the Digi 002 Rack to a FireWire drive connected to any of the 3 built-in Firewire ports on the 2003 PowerMac G4 "FW800" models can result in -6085 errors. On these computers, Digidesign recommends using a dedicated internal ATA/IDE drive for recording. If using FireWire drives with Digi 002 & 2003 G4 FW800 computers, a FireWire PCI adapter card must be used.
A tad annoyed, but then again, FW cards are cheap enough. Just wanted to bring this up. I feel dumb for missing over this one.

Default Re: Digi 002 FW issues

Thanks for bringing it up.

My concerns is WHEN is Digi going to support FW800 Drives and the new Oxford 922 chipset? All G5's have the FW800 and there are great FW800 drives available (I am using LaCie 500GB drive).

My problems (posted elswhere here), have now been narrowed down to: 1) the FW800 drive being not supported, or 2) the Digi 002 unit.

I have wiped everything out after following all Digi's "trouble shooting" tips, so it is NOT the OS (Panther).

I can run the LaCie drive through its FW 400 port which is what I am going to do next. If I STILL get -6093 error (Buffer underrun) with 1024/90% setting on a two track session, then it HAS to be the Digi 002.

I'll keep you posted, but

DIGI, can't you just TEST and SUPPORT FW800 drives?

I have seen this on my 1.42G machine as well. i have the 002r connected to the FW 400 port and have a CD/DVD R/W connected on the 800 port. all along thinking that i was ok. BANG, POW ouchy! if the CD is turned on then i get 6085 errors all day long. after i turn off the CD however they magically go away. i hope this gets fixed soon.

i should point out that i am not even recording to a FW drive!

It's the MDD model, but only the one equiped with FW800, hence the nickname "FW800 G4".
