Default added sample when copying and pasting

hi
just today I needed to copy and past a 2 bar loop over 8 minutes. I selected 2 bars using grid mode and copied and pasted in grid.

every 4th paste 1 extra sample was added. Like clock work, every 4th past another sample added.
I started using shuffle mode. and encountered the extra sample, then I tried to manually past in grid mode and the same thing

Something that should have taken a few minutes took 25 min!

I use protools every day and never encounter this. Anyone else experience this? any solution?

tks
