Default lost in scsi land :o

I just got my first computer a few days ago..
a new mac g4-400. I had gone to my local music store, got the nickel tour of the digi
001, and just had to have one. Since I don"t
know scsi from shinola, I've had a real hard
time just trying to learn about hardware, how
to hook stuff up, how to use the computer,
and how to install software. After many failed attempts, and many calls to various
technical support guys, I reached the point
with the digidesign tech where we couldn't
get the "oms" installed, and he informed me that I'd have to re-install my Mac software
and start over. So, I'm a little disheartened
and disenchanted right now. To put the icing on the cake, he also informed me that the
adaptec AVA2906 scsi card which I got with
the mac to hook-up the Yamaha 8x4x24 ext
scsi cdrw probably won't be compatible with
the digi001 system. He recommended that I get
the "atto dual channel scsi card". When I
looked that up on their website, that thing
is $550!!!!! Does anyone out there have any
advice, reccomendations, or words of
encouragement???

The Adaptec 2906 will be fine with the 001.
