Default Mac boot mode (DOS like prompt)-where did that come from?

Blank screens & no boot. Now this Mac Boot Firmware 3.1.1 prompt appears- either type: mac-boot or cancel. Happened only a few times. This morning 'yosemite jane' started ok.

It's true there's not room for a PCI worm to **** in there, but hey! what gives?

FWI-I used the benign version and it still got 86'd.

Steeeeeeeeeeve! Help.

Initio recommends removing the 001 card. Often even typing mac-boot (apple's firmware bootstrap protocol) will only bring up a MAC OS icon -underneath lists ATA PCI ATA800000 ATA etc.

Is this an ATI graphics card issue? I am running 8.6 with OpenGL 1.2.1 and Quicktime 3.02 -Apple firmware 3.1.1 on a 400 mz Yosemite.

Shaggy,

I've never seen this before except when intentionally trying to rev firmware to be Open Firmware compliant.

I'm not sure how this relates to storage.

Have you contacted Apple tech support? What do they have to say?

It occurs when I put in the Miles U/W card (Initio claims is now compatible with all PCI Macs). Maybe this is related to the dual ATA drives?

Initio now suggests this may be a (2nd ATA) drive problem. (This Yosemite is a rev 2)

When you type mac-boot (enter) on Openfirmware 3.1.1 sometimes the mac freezes at the OS icon with this code below:

/pci@80000000/pci-bridge@d/pci-ata@1/ata-4@0/@0:5/

I have also contacted xclr8yourmac. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

(I have dual Maxtor ATA drives)

Shaggy,

I'm afraid I probably won't be of much use, since we don't support the Initio cards. I've never run into this problem when updating Adaptec cards to be Open Firmware compatible.

I would probably go about this by stripping out any add-ons (001 card, second ATA drive) and getting the CPU back to "stock" condition. Then add the Initio card and see what happens. If it boots okay, then add the 001 card, etc. until you find where it breaks. That would be useful information.
