Default UAD test results Part II

Running 1.07 vst2rtas 3.6 uad LE6.4 OSX.3.5

Im starting to test this setup with buffer settings 1024 minimuim and 85 % cpu

Man Im still hitting some walls here in 48K 24 bit But over all the system just felt more stable

I had at least 26 delay comps and had my 2 x uad 's at 50 % - 60 % before errors

still would like to see the 2 cards working more but If i used no delay comps I got 75 %

so I will try a session using One delay comp on a buss where all non Uad tracks will be fed

Ill report back

Im sure Im not the only who noticed performance is increasing

ok I lowered my buffer to 128 as It let me run the session when It wouldnt run at 1024

Ok 21 tracks Delay compensation method was 1 buss with delay comp for all non uad processed tracks 6 delay comps used all

together , the other five from uad processed tracks that had less uad plugins than the highest one .

pretty cool here's what I got ( I used Bf76 instead of 1176LN I reccomend this for better performance )

naitive - 6 antares tube
1 mic modeller
1 d verb
6 bf76

UAd 1 - 6 pultec pro
1 Precision limiter
2 real verb pro
4 1176 SE
4 EX-1

UAD - 1 meter says 85 % roughly

I must say screen animation was slow But audio was fine

Though A tip for uad users If you get a freaked out native cpu save press space bar and revert to saved clears it up a lot

And I have a single processor g4 and a 001 and I think 002 dual processor g4 / g5 users will have significantly better performance ( obviously DUH )

can you test the real-world latency, too? i mean, set up a vocal track, insert UAD reverb into the vocal track, then sing to the mic and monitor yourself - do you FEEL the monitoring is delayed, or do you FEEL there's no difference compared to monitoring in analog domain?

this information would be most valuable to me. i currently use 256 hardware buffer and can provide monitor mixes with latency being a non-issue. if the uad can be added to the system without introducing too much latency, that'd be a killer.

There is no point

you defiantly hear a delay In fact 2 x what your buffer setting is

no way around it even with ADC I believe

alright, so in my point of view (i do live gigs) the uad is full of crap

seriously... if i didn't have to be able to maintain realtime, i'd probably have already bought one. seems very nice. please post few mixes you have done with it

yes, that's what i heard about the early experiences - and what you just stated few posts ago would indicate that the situation has not changed. not that i had high hopes about it, but anyway.

it's nice that you confirmed that uad will not work realtime and cannot be used live, so i don't have to wonder anymore

thank you merisblue! i just got the email from UA last night, and can't wait to try it out. it really sounds like performance is improving. if they keep this up, by christmas it should be working with PT LE almost as well as a native VST DAW.

what do you think of the precision limiter? i'm in the market for a good mastering limiter, and have been waiting for UA to put one out. any thoughts on it yet?

thanks again.

jfreak: if you're interested in hearing a couple of my mixes that used the UAD card exclusively for plugins, check this out:
