003 Console suddenly has no audio output
Hey everyone,
I've searched the forum and the web for a few hours looking for an answer to my problem and so far none of the solutions have worked for me. I have a 003 console, a newish PC with Windows 7 64 bit OS. I also have a UAD-2 card installed. I have all of the latest drivers for my 003 installed as well as the latest version of PT 9 installed. I was working on a session, audio was working fine. I installed an instance of Reason 5. Everything was working peachy. Suddenly the audio dropped out. No sound through headphones, monitors, etc. The master fader still displays that audio is being played back as if all is working fine in PT. I just can't hear any sound. Any idea what may have caused this? I've trashed my PT preferences. Set the I/O to default. Shut down and rebooted my computer. Nothing seems to work. Anyone have any idea what may have caused this? At one point my computer told me that ReWire failed to close properly. Could this be the reason (pun not intended) that 003 suddenly stopped outputting audio? Any idea on how to get it back? Thanks for any suggestions you may have!! |

I also double checked to make sure I didn't accidentally have the Mute, Aux-In, or Alt CR buttons engaged. They're not. Any ideas?

Re: 003 Console suddenly has no audio output
Just to be sure your DIGI 003 is OK try to play some music through iTunes or some other program, but not Pro Tools. If that's OK I will change the Playback Engine to something different from 003, for example built-in output and then set back 003 as default in Pro Tools.

Re: 003 Console suddenly has no audio output
Thanks for the suggestion yamahadrums! I'll give that a shot.
One of the things I have tried though was changing the Playback Engine (holding down "n" while booting Pro Tools) and for some reason Pro Tools wouldn't give me the option to change it to anything other than the 003. No drop down arrow or anything. I did a search on the web to see if there was some other way to change it but couldn't find any. |

Re: 003 Console suddenly has no audio output
Turn off DIGI and then choose another output.

Re: 003 Console suddenly has no audio output
Hey yamahadrums,
So I tried routing iTunes through Pro Tools (Control Panel/Hardware & Sound/Sound/Playback/Line 1&2 Digidesign 003). Upon launching iTunes and playing a song I heard nothing. I also tried shutting off the Digi 003 and then switching the playback engine, but PT still wouldn't give me the option of changing the current playback engine. Not sure what else to do. I'm guessing something got fried somehow in my 003 hardware. I've tried importing audio into a stereo PT session and playing back, still no sound. Totally stuck here!!! |

Re: 003 Console suddenly has no audio output
Is your DIGI 003 listed under FireWire devices in Windows when it's turned on?

Re: 003 Console suddenly has no audio output
Hey yd,
When I click on "control panel/hardware & sound/devices & printers" I do see the 003 listed under 'Unspecified'. It says it's working properly. And if I right click on "computer/properties/device manager/IEEE1394 Bus Host controllers" I see "Via 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller". It says it is working properly. Is this what you were referring to? Thanks for the help! |

Re: 003 Console suddenly has no audio output
Also, I just saw that in the Device Manager, the Digidesign 003 was listed under "Sound, Video and game controllers"

Re: 003 Console suddenly has no audio output
Well, that's good. Seems your 003 is OK. I am not much into Windows when it comes to audio, but I suspect it's some sort of a software conflict problem. Can you uninstall Reason 5 and try again to see if the problem persist?
