CPU time errors
I am suffering from CPU time errors. I have discovered that I can provoke these by power cycling pro control. I am using this as a way to troubleshoot as the errors are rather intermittant in normal use. I have posted this also in the procontrol forum, but I suspect that the problem is not with the procontrol.
This error only occurs when an RTAS plugin is running. I have set up a new session with a single stereo track. I have disabled all third party plugins. If I turn off the pro control, all is well, the normal 'no procontrol' error pops up. If I instanciate a tdm plugin and repeat, again, normal error message. If an RTAS plug in is instanciated I get a cpu time error, I then get another with the next 'action' I take, whether that is a plug in change or starting playback. The exact error is 'Your setup is using too much CPU time. Make sure that compatible disk drivers are installed and try any of the following: Remove RTAS plugins, increase 'HW buffer size' in playback engine panel, or thin automation data (-6031)' My settings are HW buffer: 512, CPU75%, DAE playback buffer4. I am running a G4 867 with 640mb ram (recently replaced while troubleshooting this problem). The errors occur regardless of scsi/firewire/internal IDE drives. I am running HD2 with a 192. Obviously I'm not going to go turning the procontrol on and off, but at the moment it's the only way I have to consistantly provoke the error. These errors normally occur during sessions when I press play on the procontrol. Occasionally also when stopping. Could a 'burst' of activity on the ethernet port be causing this? Or could it just be pushing system resources that are already not working somehow? I had thought that maybe a tenuous connection to the pro control was causing the day to day errors, but I have tested the 'data exchange' and it reports zero errors. Please could another pc user see if they can replicate my error. Thanks Jack |

Re: CPU time errors
I have further discovered that this does not occur with HTDM only RTAS. I have also tried trashing the entire preference folder for the system. No change.
Could someone from tech support please advise on this. Jack |

Re: CPU time errors
Did you increase the HW buffer? try 1024. How many RTAS plugs are you running?

Re: CPU time errors
Jack,
What Plug is it? Have you seen there are several CS releases of 5.3.1? Perhaps one of those will solve the problem? I had RTAS problems with Mix, and raising the HW Buffer fixed it. Helpful? Look Here: 5.3.1cs2 Update

Re: CPU time errors
What firmware does your ProControl have installed?
In the meantime: -Zap PRAM. -Trash the DigiSetup File, Pro Tools preference, and DAE prefs (the entire folder) from the System Folder>Preferences folder. Empty the Trash and restart the Mac. Once Pro Tools is launched, establish communication with PC and try again. -Rebuild the Desktop file. Hold down the Apple+Option keys while the extensions march across the bottom of the screen during boot-up. Hold the keys down until you get a window prompting you and then Click “OK”. Create a Mac OS Base extension set with the following enabled: -Digidesign Control Panel -DigiSystem INIT -Digidesign Direct I/O -DHS.shlb -DSI.shlb -DSILoaderINIT -Digidesign DSP Manager -Digidesign Stream Manager -Open Music System -USB Floppy Enabler Brent |
